This project involved the sensitive transformation of a former coach house into a compact, sustainable family home within a conservation area. The design required the retention of the original front facade, while creative freedom was exercised through internal reconfiguration and contemporary rear additions.
The solution features three distinct zinc and glass extensions with a combination of glazed and green roofs. A new side porch leads into a central atrium, where a vibrant blue staircase and a matching first-floor bridge connect the two bedrooms and bathroom, while also flooding the hall below with natural light.
The rear of the property houses a kitchen and dining room that open onto the garden, complemented by a new standalone garden workspace. The home is highly energy-efficient, powered by solar panels with battery storage and featuring a significantly upgraded thermal envelope.
Throughout the interior, spaces are designed to feel distinct and characterful. A coherent color palette and unusually generous ceiling heights create a sense of spaciousness and volume that defies the home's compact footprint, resulting in a bright, modern, and deceptively expansive living environment.
